It is said to be the oldest national park in Uganda which was established in 1952 and the largest park measuring approximately 3,893 square kilometers. It is located in northern Uganda which is 305 kilometers from Kampala the capital city that is 5hours by road via Kampala – Masidi high way , it borders the shores of lake Albert along the Victoria Nile up to the Karuma falls. Murchison falls is cut into 2 by Victoria Nile from east to west for a distance of about 115 kilometers, the park stretches across 4 districts of Masidi, Buliisa, Kiryandogo and Nwoyo.
Murchison falls National Park is very known and loved by tourists because of its beautiful falls, a big population of crocodiles, a big population of over 451 bird species and being a home of over 76 mammals including some of the BIG FIVE animals For example elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards and chimpanzees, other animals include hippopotamus, waterbucks, giraffes, warthogs, Jackson’s hartebeest, Oribis and many others.
On your way to Murchison falls National you can decide to visit Ziwa rhino sanctuary which is located north of Kampala in Nakasongola district along the Kampala-Gulu high way that is 3 hours’ drive. It is the only place in Uganda where you can find variety of these uncommon rhinos in a big population both white northern and southern Rhinos plus black rhinos. Tourists who are interested in rhinos always get a good time at Ziwa rhino sanctuary since they get time to know more about the rhinos. While at Ziwa, professional tour guides will tell you all you need to know about the rhinos while trekking.
Boat Cruise
The boat cruise starts from Paraa landing area, it is at this exact point that the Nile joins Lake Albert. While on the cruise spot Nile crocodiles and Aquatic birds like the Pied Kingfisher, the Shoebills, the Fish Eagles and elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, hippopotamuses along the river bank. Sometimes tourists get out of the boat and they go hike on top of the falls which makes the trip more fun and interesting.
Game Drives
It is the morning game drive that is recommended to tourists since it gives you a chance to spot a variety of wildlife, in the morning animals come out of their habitats to hunt for food. You will come cross animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, Uganda Kobs, antelopes, oribis and jackson’s hartebeests.
Chimpanzee tracking
It is done from Kaniyo Pabidi forest and it a home of approximately 120 chimpanzees and there is also chimpanzee rehabilitation where tourists are allowed to spend more hours with chimpanzees
Bird Watching
Murchison falls National is home of over 451 bird species including the aquatic species and these one are viewed while on boat cruise. Bird watching is done from kaniya pabidi and Rakobo forest and there are some of the bird which can be spotted the rare Puvel’s illadopsis, the crowned Eagles, the Cameroon somber, the Brown twinspot, the chocolate –backed kingfishers, Lemon -bellied crombec, the Cassin’s spine – tailed, the Cassin hawks eagles, the Spotted greenbul, the Dwarf king fishers, the Yellow crested wood pecker, the Green breasted pitta, the Blue breasted kingfishers, the Pygmy crakes, the White-thighed hornbill, the Ituri batis, the Zoother cameronensis, the Rufous-sided and many others

This is done in Budongo forest, Rabongo forest and Kaniya Pabidi. It is a beautiful new experience found in only Murchison falls national park and Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda which was introduced by Uganda wildlife national park handled by Dream balloon who were fully certified and registered by Uganda Civil aviation in 2011. It is been done by experienced pilots and for now they encourage only 8 tourists to fly up.
